Part of this afternoon was spent
with settling with the Stockbridge
Indians
concerning the mill friends
had built them, & in the evening
we had a council with the Oneidas
in order for them to give us an
answer to the proposals we made
to them yesterday, they inform’d us they
had found one lad or young man
willing to come & join in on the
farm, & one to learn the smith trade,
& the chiefs engaged to use their
endeavours to get more; they also agreed
immediately to cover a shop & burn
some coals; which shop they accord-
ingly cover’d next morning, & went
immediately to getting wood home
for coal; and the opportunity ended
to general satisfaction. It now looks
likely we may set off home tomorrow,
