had a favour’d opportunity with a
number of the most respectable cha-
racters of both their men & women,
at the close of which, a chief on behalf
of the men present made a pretty lengthy
speech, in substance, expressing their
thankfulness to the Good Spirit who
had put it into our hearts to remember
them when at a great distance, & had
preserv’d us in our way thither, that
they felt themselves strengthen’d by our
good words; that they were sensible they
had done that which was not right,
yet hoped by the help of the Good Spirit,
they would do better for the future, &
they wish’d the Quakers would continue
to remember them, for they had found them
to be true men, & that they really had
the poor Indian’s good at heart; & wish’d
