of the young men we had left there,
the captain express’d great satisfaction
with our proceedings, & thought there
was encouragement to extend labour
towards that people, for he had been
some time past thro’ the Oneida set-
tlement, & he apprehended he saw
considerable improvement since friends
extended
2 Oclock we sat off towards Canan-
darque, & for 9 or 10 miles we pass’d
thro’ a thick settled highly improv’d
country, considering the settlement
was no more than 10 years old, which
to me was very animating, having
for 300 miles past been mostly in the
wilderness where improvements are
