In the year 1797, John Parrish

, a friend and fa-
ther in the church, suggested the advantage that
might arise to the Indian natives, by bringing a few
of their young females into this part of the country,
in order to instruct them in the useful arts of do-
mestic economy, by pitting them in the families
of suitable Friends, where they might be carefully educated.
