have been troubled with drunken Indians
that night but they came no nearer than
than their Cabins which were a few rods
from ours. This was almost the first stri-
king instance of the bad effects of Spirituous
liquors that we had seen in our neigh-
bourhood. A few weeks after the Indian
brought a large fish and gave to my
companion and shook hands with him
as a token of friendship, and appeared
convicted for his misconduct

who had been employ-
ed in clearing Land near the waters of Oswaya
Creek
about 60 miles from this place
having occasion to return home which was in
the Genesee near Bath, about 50 miles from
his employment, and on his way thro,

was said he had lain in the woods 6 nights
