informed by our Interpreter that his Nation
(the Tonawantoes

) were a sober people, which
we understood was generally the ease with those
at Onondagoe many of them appear to have
comfortable houses, and some have Barns;
their corn appeared promising, and from the
appearance of things amongst them, we believe
that they generally live comfortably in their way
and we apprehended that Ephraim Webster's
attention to their Oxen, and other concerns
would be useful; he was accordingly agreed
with to have some oversight of that Tribe
for the ensuing year, and for such services
he is to have a reasonable compensation
