Notes: Quaker minister, abolitionist, hatter, and tanner. Son of Joseph Scattergood (1714-c. 1754) and Rebecca Watson Scattergood. 1765 transferred from Burlington Monthly Meeting to Philadelphia. Married (1772) Elizabeth Bacon; married (1783) Sarah Hoskins (d. 1832). In 1780 made an Overseer of his meeting. Ministerial travels in England (1784-1800); involved with Westtown School (aft. 1800).
