Account of a visit paid to the Indians in New York State

Page out of 241

here we met with a company of
men who were going to run out
Robert Morris’ late purchase of the
Indians, into townships; John
Thomson
, an old acquaintance
from Delaware County, being one
of the head surveyors, he kindly
invited us to stay all night with
them, & directed a tent to be put
up for us; we acknowledg’d his kind-
ness & accepted his offer; After
feeding our horses we turn’d them
out to bare picking in an open bot-
tom, we ourselves were kindly enter-
tain’d with great simplicity, on
bread, fish, & chocolate, & got a
pretty good night’s rest, which we
wanted being weary, having travelled
45 miles. No white inhabitants
for the last 80 miles.
