some marks of its having fallen an
inch or more; We saw neither house
nor cabin in this day’s ride. 35 miles.

Rose early this morning & upon
viewing Catarawgus we found it
had fallen several inches; we
therefore fed our horses, & prepar’d
for moving, we had lodged on an
island, which our guide took us
round to the head of that so we
might have the advantage of the
current in crossing it; we found
the bed of the creek was wide,
& there was a large gravelly
island several perches from our
shore; we descended the bank &
