Account of a visit paid to the Indians in New York State

& do the kitchen work. We are
every day visited by more or less of the
Indians who are much pleas’d with
viewing various kinds of our goods, which
satisfaction is increas’d in our giving
them some little matters.

Two Indians one being a chief paicepaid
us a visit this morning, & we being em-
ploy’d in writing & reading endeavour’d
to let them know we did not work on
first day, tho’ we found it difficult to
make them sensible of the reason why
we cas’d therefrom. We shew’d them
Howel’s map of Pennsylvania, with
which they seem’d were much diverted
& seem’d to understand it pretty well,
particularly the Alleghany river & the
large streams which run into it.
Since our coming into these parts we
have kept meetings twice a week
