were all green, the sight was curious
and different from our last prospect
that I measured some chesnut leaves
and found them to be 3 inches wide
and 6 long and sprouts of 8 or 9 inches
growth so that I think there is at
least in 3 miles riding two weeks dif-
ference in the seasons. When on the
chesnut hill there is one of the most
extensive prospects that is to be met with
in traveling to the North to the West and
to the South, I had no doubt but the
view was of 50 miles extent. In every
direction the view look an extensive plain
but where we came to traverse it we
found many large hills tho no mount-
ain neither is there any to the west-
ward in the United States equal to
those we have crossed. We lodged with
