had the appearance of better Land
& much more productive of fruit
and pretty thickly Inhabitted, the
road very level and plesant
travelling. Lodged at a Tavern
in the Town, which contains
about a Hundred & twenty houses,
5th day 31st Crossed Esopus Creek
at its Landing, about two miles
from the Town, said to be one
hundred and fifty yards wide, in
a Boat, and passed through a very
poor & stony country, near the
North river, on the way to
Edward Hallucks, where I lodged
with his Son James, and was kin-
dly entertained, it being 22 miles
from Esopus.
